Self-Inflicted Wound Armband

The S.I.W. Armband

Some soldiers on the front lines decided they would do anything to get out of combat duty, and would shoot or otherwise wound themselves to render themselves unfit for combat. These soldiers would be evacuated to a hospital and if found guilty of the offense, were sentenced to hard labor and made to wear the Self-Inflicted Wound armband while doing so – a show of cowardice. Hospitals were issued these armbands in anticipation of these instances. The armband is yellow in color with two buckles for fastening. The “SIW” would be black in color.
