After the Spanish-American War, the U.S. Army decided to update their uniforms so they would be more standard across all branches. Thus, the Model 1902 uniforms were introduced; one in blue wool for dress and a cotton khaki version for the field.
While the uniform was made for the field, this visor cap was actually to be worn in garrison. It is cotton and matches the khaki color of the uniform, peaked in front with two vent holes on each side. The chinstrap is black leather as is the down-turned brim. The chinstrap buttons are rimless brass eagle buttons. The branch insignia is affixed to the front.
